GDSC2025 China Regional Selection Tournament Shanghai Station Concludes Successfully

From January 16 to 19, 2025, the fourth Global Digital Skills Championship (GDSC2025) China Regional Selection Tournament Shanghai Station was successfully held. The event was hosted by the International Alliance for Digital Game Education (IADGE) and co-organized by Shanghai Information Management School and Bohuan College, aiming to identify and cultivate outstanding technical talents for the digital game industry.

GDSC2025 follows the philosophy and technical standards of the WorldSkills Competition, providing a global platform for participants to showcase their talents and enhance their skills. The event was packed with activities. On January 16, the organizers conducted faculty training and arranged trial runs for the participants. The intense competition took place from January 17 to 18. On January 19, the event concluded with a technical review session and a grand award ceremony.

Prior to the competition, the organizers meticulously prepared professional faculty training activities, inviting industry veterans to share their experiences in digital game art from the WorldSkills Competition and to conduct comprehensive technical standard training. During the training, participants were assessed and instructed on technical knowledge. Additionally, the organizers gifted the “GDSC2024 Global Digital Skills Championship Real Exam Textbook” to the attending units.

This selection tournament focused on 3D digital game art and was conducted in an individual format. Each contestant was required to independently complete all competition tasks, demonstrating their skills and creativity comprehensively. The competition topic required participants to design an independent game with a Chinese puppet art style. Based on the provided design language of two puppet toys, contestants were tasked with creating a new snake baby puppet toy. This topic not only tested the contestants’ conceptual design abilities but also challenged their comprehensive skills in 3D modeling, sculpting, material handling, and rendering.

During the technical review session, a selection of outstanding works was carefully chosen for on-site evaluation. The creators of these exceptional works were invited to share their design concepts and their valuable experiences and growth in learning 3D digital game art. Through this interaction and exchange, participants learned from each other and were inspired, which will help them achieve greater progress in their future artistic endeavors.

This competition was not only a brilliant showcase in the field of digital art but also an excellent opportunity for digital art enthusiasts and practitioners to enhance their skills. Whether you are an experienced professional digital artist or a newcomer to the digital art field, you can gain a lot from the GDSC platform. We look forward to more talents shining on the global digital skills championship stage and working together to create a bright future.
